Bomb explosion claims lives of 4 travelers, leaves 7 injured in Borno
At least four travelers lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries after stepping on a landmine along the Maiduguri/Gomboru Ngala highway in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources reported that the incident occurred around Gajibo village at approximately 1:45 PM on Saturday, adding to the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Among those killed were three women, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
According to a security source who spoke to Newsmen on Sunday in Maiduguri, the explosion was triggered when a Sharon car unknowingly drove over an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents near the area where a similar incident occurred just a fortnight prior.
“The incident took place near the scene of last IEDs explosion that killed some CJTF a week ago. The vehicle was damaged beyond repair,” said the security source.”
The aftermath of the explosion left the vehicle severely damaged, beyond repair. This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgents in the region, despite ongoing efforts by security forces to contain and neutralize their activities.
As of now, the Nigerian Army has not issued a response to the incident, leaving many questions unanswered and highlighting the need for continued vigilance and enhanced security measures along vulnerable routes in the region.
