Boko Haram Insurgents Ambush Military Convoy, Soldiers Killed
Boko Haram militants ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in northeast Nigeria’s Borno State on Saturday. The soldiers, traveling for gas supplies, were met with gunfire near Kamuya village, 90 miles southwest of Borno’ State capital, Maiduguri.
While details remain unclear, reports suggest at least seven soldiers died in the attack. According to Nigeria’s Daily Trust, the soldiers were traveling to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, to procure fuel when they were ambushed.
“I can’t describe the kind of gun battle that ensued, the insurgents who were in large numbers overwhelmed the soldiers. It’s by God’s grace that I survived,” an eyewitness told Daily Trust.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident but has yet to release an official statement regarding the number of casualties. The incident comes a week after the Nigerian Army buried 17 personnel who were killed while on a peace mission in Delta State on March 14, 2024.
