Beheaded aid worker David Haines’s daughter says Islamic State bride Shamima Begum is a ticking timebomb

The daughter of an aid worker murdered by IS in Syria has warned jihadi bride Shamima Begum is a ‘ticking time bomb’ and allowing her return to the UK risked public safety.

David Haines, 44, was working in a refugee camp on the border with Turkey when he was abducted in March 2013.

He was held for 18 months by a British terror cell dubbed ‘The Beatles’, and was beheaded by Mohammed Emwazi, nicknamed Jihadi John, in September 2014, with sickening footage of the killing used as part of a propaganda campaign.

Now his daughter, Bethany Haines, 23, warned a decision to allow runaway schoolgirl Begum, who fled east London to become a jihadi bride in 2015 with two friends, to return home would put lives at risk.

Begum was stripped of her British passport last year after being found in a refugee camp, pregnant with her third child, who died three months later, leaving her mourning all three of her children.

Now aged 20, she was granted permission to appeal the decision to revoke her citizenship by the Court of Appeal last Thursday, and can return to the UK to fight her case.

Mother-of-one Miss Haines said: ‘From what I gather, Begum still has a strong hatred of the UK. She’s a ticking time bomb.

‘This decision is against public safety and they don’t consider the impact of their decisions.’

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Robert Buckland has told civil servants to come up with proposals to restrict legal aid for terrorists who bring challenges in the civil courts, such as under immigration or citizenship law.

A Ministry of Justice source said: ‘Why should someone who is considered a national security risk have their legal bills picked up by the taxpayer?’
