ISIS terror cell member: Barcelona attack was supposed to be bigger
One of the members of a Islamic State terror cell that carried out attacks in Spain last week admitted in court on Tuesday that the group had been planning a larger assault with explosives, according to a report.
Mohamed Houli Chemlal, one of the attackers accused of killing 15 people in Barcelona and Cambrils, testified in Span’s High Court, The Guardian reported.
Chemlal, 21, was captured after a house in Alcanar, about 120 miles south of Barcelona, exploded a day before the pedestrians were mowed down last Thursday.
Their plan to carry out a larger terror attack was thwarted by the explosion of the gas canisters in the house.
A fifth suspect in the attacks, Younes Abouyaaquob, 22, was shot dead by police on Monday. He is believed to be the driver of the van that mowed down people in a popular tourist area of Barcelona.
