Azerbaijan’s Ombudsman commends ICJ’s decision to examine facts of Armenia’s mine terrorism
Azerbaijan’s Ombudsman has commended the decision of the International Court of Justice to examine facts of Armenia’s mine terrorism, Azernews reports.
As a result of Armenia’s policy of aggression and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijan for many years, the fundamental rights and freedoms of more than a million Azerbaijanis, as enshrined in international legal documents, have been violated, the norms and principles of international law and international humanitarian law have been grossly violated, and war crimes have been committed.
Legal steps taken at the international level to restore the rights and freedoms of Azerbaijanis, which have been continuously violated for decades, are extremely important in terms of ensuring justice.
Despite the objections of the Armenian side, we consider the decision of the International Court of Justice to consider Azerbaijan’s legal claim against this country, as well as the facts related to Armenia’s mine terrorism, on the merits, commendable.
We consider the court’s rejection of the attempts of the Azerbaijani side to exclude from the jurisdiction of the court the justified claims of the Azerbaijani side regarding the placement of mines and mine traps in our territories during and after the occupation by Armenia, as an important step towards restoring justice.
