German authorities consider repatriation of German members of the ISIS terrorist group
Germany is planning to bring back home the suspected German member of the Islamic State (IS) which are now being held by the Syrian Kurdish forces.
“The federal government is examining all options for a possible return of German nationals,” the German foreign ministry said on Wednesday in a written answer to a parliamentary question.
The Syrian Kurdish forces, which have been actively fighting against IS with the help of the US-led Coalition, have called on the Western countries to take back their citizens arrested for IS membership.
There are reportedly several hundreds of foreign IS members with their wives and children in the Syrian Kurdistan prisons. The European countries have so far been reluctant to take back the suspects.
Among the detainees are believed to be at least 35 German citizens, 14 of whom are under investigation by the German authorities as suspected IS fighters, as reported by The Telegraph.
