Turkey authorities detain 5 people including 4 Iraqi nationals for belonging to ISIS

Two courts in Turkey decided to jail five suspects, including four Iraqis, and release five other Iraqis in the framework of investigations held over ISIS activities in Sakarya, northwest Turkey, and Samsun, northeast Turkey.
Security forces have found documents that prove the relation between the suspects and ISIS during a raid on their homes, according to security sources.

Samsun’s court issued an order to release five Iraqi nationals who were arrested earlier and sources indicated that they were arrested in April 2016 on suspicion of them joining ISIS.

Meanwhile, Malaysian police have arrested two Turks, including the head of an international school, suspected of activities threatening the country’s national security.

A humanitarian organization said that it fears Ankara has pressured Malaysia to arrest the two suspects.

No further details were provided by authorities and the Turkish embassy refused to comment, according to Turkish Hurriyet Daily newspaper on Wednesday.

On the other hand, a Turkish journalist, who was arrested for joining a terrorist organization, claimed that security forces tortured him in his house before arresting him.

Journalist Umar Cilik said in a testimony to a delegation from the Republic People’s Party, the largest Turkish opposition party, that he was subjected to violence and was tortured beside his newborn baby.

Cilik, who was an editor-in-chief for a local news agency southeast Turkey and is being held in Silivri Prison, which is a heavily guarded prison, told the visiting parliamentary delegation that security forces took him to his balcony and made him stand in a bucket filled with cold water at a temperature below zero at that time. They also filmed videos of him in this position.

He said that they collected his emails and news he was writing to submit them as pieces of evidence for his membership and support for a terrorist organization.
