Attacker involved in killing the US ambassador in Libya commits suicide after besieged by army

Libya’s eastern-based army Wednesday announced that a terrorist involved in the attack on the United States (US) consulate in Benghazi in 2012 blew himself up after besieged by the troops, Anadolu Agency reported.

The 2012 attack resulted in the deaths of the US ambassador and three other consulate officials.

“The army managed to track down wanted terrorists inside houses they were hiding. The terrorist, named Adel Al-Abdali, was eliminated after a special force stormed the house where he was hiding in Sabha (in southern Libya). While he was surrounded, he had no way to escape so he blew himself up,” the army’s spokesman Ahmad al-Mismari told a press conference in Benghazi later on Wednesday.

“He (Al-Abdali) has a long criminal record. He took part in the killing of the US Ambassador in Benghazi,” al-Mismari said.

The spokesman also said that the army had captured Al-Amin Ali Milud Kalfa, a senior al-Qaeda terrorist, who took part in the assassination of a senior security official in 2008, as well as other terrorist attacks in the country.

Two weeks ago, the army launched a military campaign against terrorism and crime in southern Libya.
