ISIS attack on village near Khanaqin leaves two dead
Islamic State (IS) militants attacked the village of Ahmed Tahir overnight on Sunday and killed at least two people.
The village is located on the suburb of Khanaqin, a Kurdish town contested between Iraq and Kurdistan Region in Diyala province.
Kurdistan 24 said one of the killed was a member of Hashd al-Shaabi militia forces.
Another man was rushed to the hospital after he was injured during the surprise attack.
Rapid Response Forces and the Shi’ite militias were set on alert after the attack. However, it was not clear if they engaged in any clash with the assailants.
