ATS arrests three more in Al Qaeda module case
A day after a Bangladeshi national was arrested and three others detained by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for their alleged links to the banned terror organisation Al Qaeda, the ATS on Tuesday arrested the three detenues. They were sent to seven-day police remand.
The ATS has alleged that the three – Munna Khalid Ansari alias Munnakhan alias Moz Ibn Zabal and Azharul Islam Kafiluddin Ansari alias Jahangir alias Aakashkhan, both natives of Bhaluka in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh, as well as Abdul Latif alias Mominul Ansari, native of Morsi in Bangladesh — are members of Al Qaeda.
According to the ATS, Munna and Azharul were apprehended from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh with the help of the UP Police. Abdul Latif, who allegedly entered India illegally from Bangladesh, was apprehended from Kalupur in Ahmedabad on Monday.
A man named Mohammad Sojibmiya Ahmedali (28), who was residing at Rakhial in Ahmedabad, was arrested by the ATS on Monday. Ahmedali, sent to eight days of police remand by the court, was allegedly in charge of recruiting youths and raising funds for Al Qaeda.
The ATS has alleged that during interrogation, it was revealed that members of this module are “residing in India illegally, propagating the ideology of Al Qaeda, recruiting sympathetic youths to the organisation, collecting funds and sending it to their handlers”.
Azharul and Munna were allegedly in possession of fake Aadhaar and PAN cards, using which they allegedly opened Indian bank accounts. The funds collected would be sent by Azharul to Bangladesh to fund Al Qaeda’s activities through hawala channels, the ATS has claimed.
