At least 60 terrorists are killed in army offensive in northern Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso defense and security forces killed on Tuesday about 60 terrorist suspects in an offensive against an attack on military detachment in Soum province, in the north of the country, a security source told Xinhua.
“On Tuesday morning, unidentified gunmen attacked the military detachment in Arbinda. The offensive managed to neutralize approximately 60 terrorists,” a military officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
According to the source, at least four soldiers of the Burkina Faso army lost their lives.
“What is certain is that the enemy casualties were heavy,” the source also said, stressing that defense and security forces used air assets in the offensive.
Burkina Faso is faced with a worsening security situation in northern regions with almost daily terrorist attacks that have sparked a wave of panic in the country.
Over the last few weeks, the Burkina Faso army has scaled up military air and ground offensives against the escalating terrorist attacks across the country.
Since 2015, terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of over 700 people, including 200 of the soldiers of the armed forces, and displaced thousands of others in the West-African country.
