At least 25 al-Shabab militants killed in airstrike in central Somalia
Somali military forces, supported by international partners, conducted an airstrike in the central Somali region, killing at least 25 al-Shabab militants on Wednesday night.
The airstrike targeted the group’s radio station, a house where leaders of the group were meeting, and a garage where they used to prepare car bombs in the Galhareeri district of the Galgaduud region, according to the Somali army.
“Last midnight, several rockets destroyed the group’s centers, including their radio station wing. Many journalists and their leaders were killed, and Galhareiri last night became a place where terrorism was destroyed,” a statement from the Armed Forces Command said.
The airstrike took place hours after the al-Shabaab militant group attacked military bases in the Aad village of Somalia’s Mudug region on Wednesday. The attack involved explosions targeting both government and local militia forces.
The Somali National News Agency reported that despite heavy resistance, government forces, aided by local militias, managed to repel the attack, inflicting substantial losses on the militants. However, in a contrasting claim, Al-Shabaab has declared a victory in their morning assault.
