A UN report has claimed that over 1,400 foreign fighters of a blacklisted faction of the terror group ISIS, who surrendered before Afghan authorities last year, also included Indian nationals.

In May last year, the UN Security Council’s 1267 Qaeda Sanctions Committee had blacklisted the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan (ISIL-K).

Also known as ISIL’s South Asia Branch, ISIL Khorasan, Islamic State’s Khorasan Province and South Asian Chapter of ISIL, the ISIL-K is a branch of the militant Islamist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), active in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

ISIL-K was displaced from larges area of the Nangarhar province after Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters inflicted “severe damage” on the terror group.
