Arwa Muthana from Hoover, Alabama, along with her husband James Bradley attempted to travel to the Middle East to join and fight for the Islamic State terrorist group.

In late January 2021, Bradley married Muthana in an Islamic marriage ceremony. Beginning before and continuing after their marriage, Bradley and Muthana discussed, planned, and ultimately attempted to travel to the Middle East together in order to join and fight with the Islamic State terrorist group.

Muthana and her husband (who has also expressed her support for Islamic State) were arrested while attempting to travel together by cargo ship to the Middle East to join and fight for the Islamic State.

She is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Also, she is charged with another count of conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, which also carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
