Morocco arrested three French citizens for having links to the ISIS terrorist group
Altogether three French nationals, including one of Algerian origin, have been arrested in the city of Sale, near the capital Rabat, for their alleged involvement in terror financing and links with fighters belonging to the Islamic State (IS) group, the Moroccan police announced on Tuesday.
The initial investigations revealed that the suspects had forged “strong ties with some IS fighters in Syria and Iraq,” and are also suspected of “raising funds for extremist groups to finance terrorist acts,” the police said in a statement.
The suspects were held in police custody to complete the inquiry conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, investigations are underway to arrest potential accomplices and identify possible connections between the suspects and any terrorist groups in Morocco or abroad, it added.
