Another mass grave of Kurdish Yezidis discovered in northern Iraq
Authorities have found another mass grave where Kurdish Yezidi victims of Islamic State (IS) atrocities are buried, two officials confirmed.
Mahma Khalil, Mayor of Sinjar, told BasNews on Thursday that the mass grave is believed to had originally been a water well where the IS militants killed and put a number of Yezidis.
According to Khalil, the new mass grave was found near Tel Afar, one of IS strongholds in northern Iraq once the jihadist group had its grip on the territory between 2014 and 2017.
The number of the victims found in the mass grave is not known, he said, noting that a specialised team was needed to exhume the grave.
Fallah Hassan, a member of the special office for exhumation and documentation of mass graves in Duhok province, told BasNews that they have received reports about the new discovery, but they are yet to dispatch a delegation to the area.
