ISIS announces capture of two Russian soldiers in Syria
The terrorist group ISIS captured two Russian soldiers in the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor, reported SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors the activities of terrorists, citing Amaq news agency.
It was also reported that one of the Russian soldiers was killed.
Later, a representative of the Russian Khmeimim Air Base told Russia’s Interfax news agency that the information about the capture and death of Russian military in the Deir ez-Zor province is untrue.
“There were no incidents connected with the capture or loss of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the province of Deir ez-Zor or in any other areas of Syria,” the representative of the air base said.
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the department can neither confirm nor deny the reports about the capture of Russian soldiers in Syria.
“We have seen these reports, but I do not have information to confirm or refute them. They need verification,” TASS quoted Zakharova as saying.
The Russian Ministry of Defense denied reports of the capture of Russian servicemen in Syria, reported Interfax.
According to them, there were no incidents connected with the capture of servicemen or of servicemen being in captivity, or with their death, in the province of Deir ez-Zor or in any other areas of Syria.
“All the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation who are in the Syrian Arab Republic are alive, healthy and carrying out their assigned responsibilities,” the representative of the Khmeimim Air Base said.
As was previously reported, a Russian general who commanded militants of the DPR was killed in Syria. He was mortally wounded by a mortar shell.
