Ali Hatoum

Dead

Terror organization: Hezbollah

Status: He held the position of head of the Second Sector (Burj al-Barajneh) in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Role: He considered as the Sharif of Burj al-Barajneh. Before being dismissed from Hezbollah’s organizational body to the Resistance Brigades in 2017, Hatoum fought fiercely in the front lines of his party in Syria. After returning from there to Burj al- Barajneh, he was dismissed from the party organizationally and transferred to the Brigades, which led to popular and civil protests in the area against the dismissal.

He was found dead in his home behind the Burj al-Barajneh municipality building on the night of September 8 th , 2019. Till this day, there are two versions to his death cause: first, he had depression and commit suicide (Hezbollah’s official “truth”). Second, he was assassinated (probably by operatives from unit 121 – Nasrallah’s hitmen squad) according to the fact that he was very close to Mustafa Badreddine, who was assassinated several years before after Nasrallah direct order.

Regarding the forensic evidence uncovered at the crime scene, the Hezbollah source confirms that they are awaiting the final report, noting that “initial data indicates that the bullet was fired from a very close range, from a military pistol on which his fingerprints were found.”

According to the “Burji source” close to Hatoum, there is not a logical reason that he will do an act of suicide. “Hatoum had knowledge of secret information that he should not have known, which was provided to him by his strong relationship with Mustafa Badreddine, who is accused of assassinating Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, and who was also assassinated in mysterious circumstances in Syria.”
