The Virginia jihad network was a network of Muslim extremists centered in Northern Virginia that planned atrocities in the U.S. and abroad.

Nine members of the Virginia Jihad Network were convicted on charges related to their participation in a terrorist enterprise, including engaging in paramilitary training. Al-Tamimi had been named as an unindicted co-conspirator in that case.

On 16 September 2001, he said to his followers, to “go abroad and join the mujaheddin engaged in violent jihad in Afghanistan.” Afterwards, many attendees at that meeting began military training, both in the United States and in terrorist training camps overseas.
