Al-Shabaab terrorist group is planning to carry out attacks in Somali capital
A memo sent to the Banadir regional administration by security agencies, a copy of which Somaliaffairs has seen, has warned that the militant group Al-Shabaab is planning to carry out attacks against aid workers, religious leaders and security officials.
The memo said that Al-Shabaab is planning to carry out suicide bombings and direct attacks against the new headquarters of the Immigration Department in Abdiaziz neighbourhood of the capital, Mogadishu, SYL and Sayidka hotels and the headquarters of the Interior Security Ministry.
The memo added that the Al-Qaeda-linked group is also planning to plant landmines on the road between Bula Hubey and the Aden Adde International Airport in order to target both civilians and government officials.
The militant group might want their attacks to coincide with the country’s independence celebrations, warned the memo.
Al-Shabaab frequently carries out bomb attacks and assassinations against government officials and buildings but have also targeted civilians in many occassions.
