Al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri tries to incite Indian Muslims over Karnataka hijab row

The leader of global terrorist outfit Al Qaeda released a new video of its elusive leader Ayman al-Zawahiri talking about the hijab row in Karnataka. Critising India, Zawahiri said the hijab controversy brought the reality of ‘Hindu India’ and its democracy to the fore.

The video was released on Tuesday by the official AQ mouthpiece Shabab media. In the nine-minute video, Zawahiri exhorts Indian Muslims to react to this “oppression”.

Zawahiri focussed on the hijab controversy and praised Muskaan, the woman who countered the “Jai Shree Ram’ slogan being raised at her college with a “Alahu Akbar” call of her own. Zawahiri addresses Muskaan as ‘India’s noble lady’ and even read poetry in her praise.

Zawahiri also targeted those countries, including Pakistan and Bangladesh, which have banned the hijab. He called them allies of western countries.

The video clears the air on rumors of his death. He is alive and keeping a close eye on all the latest developments in India and the neighbouring countries. Zawahiri has been in command of Al Qaeda since the assassination of Osama bin Laden.

The hijab controversy in Karnataka started in January earlier this year. Some girl students in a government school in Udupi were stopped from attending class in hijab. Since then there were both pro-hijab and anti-hijab protests.

The matter was taken to the Karnataka High Court, who ruled that hijab is not an essential part of Islam and gave consent to the state government’s restriction on the use of the head scarf by Muslim girls and women in educational institutions.
