ISIS-affiliated woman suspected of genocide
One of the three women who arrived in Sweden on Monday after being deported from Syria is suspected of genocide, SVT reports.
Two of the three Swedish ISIS-affiliated women who were deported from Syria were arrested when they arrived in Sweden. According to SVT, one woman is suspected of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.
The woman was taken in for police questioning. All three are believed to be affiliated with ISIS.
Swedish prosecutors announced that people returning from ISIS-controlled areas might have committed crimes that can be investigated in Sweden, adding that several cases were being processed.
Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg did not want to confirm or comment on individual cases.
“I can confirm that there are several suspicions of war crimes that are being investigated,” he said.
The women landed at Arlanda near Stockholm on Monday afternoon with six children. They have been in the Kurdish-run al-Roj prison camp but have now been deported from Syria.
Another eight Swedes with 16 children are left in prison camps in Syria.
