The Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow has issued an arrest warrant for Russian nationals Elvira Karayeva and Polina Atemaskina in absentia for alleged aiding and abetting the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia, the court’s spokesperson Yekaterina Krasnova has told RAPSI.

The court has ruled to detain the women for 2 months after their extradition to Russia. Karayeva and Atemaskina have been put on the international wanted list.

The defendants have been charged with participation in a terrorist organization and aiding and abetting terrorism.

Earlier this week, the court put children’s book writer Daria Itsankova on the international wanted list on similar charges. According to media reports, the woman joined militants in Syria several years ago. Before then, she reportedly adopted Islam, left for Iraq and collected money for financing the Islamic State terrorist organization.

The Islamic State, an organization which is prohibited in Russia, is currently one of the major threats to global security. Over three years, these terrorists have managed to seize large areas of Iraq and Syria. Currently, various forces combat the organization in both countries with battle for Iraqi Mosul as one of the most crucial directions.
