Abdelhamid Al-Madioum is a resident of the US state of Minnesota who has been charged with providing support to the Islamic State terrorist group.
In March 2019, Al-Madioum was detained overseas by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and recently transferred into FBI custody and then returned to Minnesota.
Al-Madioum (a native of Morocco and naturalized US citizen), and his family traveled from Minnesota, to Morocco to visit their extended family, but he disappeared.
His parents said he had been on his phone more than usual, and that he secretly booked a flight to Istanbul. From there, he made his way to Syria and joined the Islamic State.
On 8 July 2015, Al-Madioum left Morocco and traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, and then on to Iraq and Syria, where he joined the Islamic State terrorist group.
When he entered the Islamic State controlled territory in 2015, he was 18. He had been contacted on Twitter, and started watching propaganda videos that claimed the Islamic State was helping Muslims.
