3 Khalistani terrorists killed in encounter, 2 police personnel injured in joint operation by UP and Punjab police

Two police constables were injured in a violent encounter with three ‘Khalistani terrorists’ linked to the recent grenade attack on the Gurdaspur police station in Punjab. The suspects, identified as members of a Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror module, opened fire during a police operation, sparking a heavy exchange of gunfire that left all three suspects critically injured. They later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

The encounter occurred on Monday near an under-construction bridge in the Puranpur area of Uttar Pradesh after a joint operation between the UP and Punjab police.

According to SP Avinash Pandey, the operation was based on intelligence gathered from the grenade attack on the Gurdaspur police station. He said,”A few days ago, a police station in Gurdaspur was attacked, and based on that information, we were able to locate the three suspects who had been hiding.”

The Gurdaspur police had informed UP police that the suspects, who had been fleeing on a motorcycle, were heading towards Pilibhit. The information was relayed to the Puranpur police station, prompting a swift response from local police teams, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Gurdaspur police. Police forces quickly pursued the suspects, and they were cornered near an under-construction bridge in the Puranpur area.

“As the suspects approached the under-construction bridge, they encountered obstacles in the form of vehicles. The police teams surrounded them, and when confronted, the suspects opened fire,” SP Pandey explained. The police returned fire, critically injuring all three terrorists.

The suspects, initially treated at the Community Health Center (CHC) in Puranpur, were later transferred to the district hospital, where they were declared dead. “The three suspects were transferred to the district hospital, where they were confirmed dead,” confirmed SP Pandey.

In addition to the fatalities, police recovered two foreign-made Glock pistols and a stolen motorcycle linked to a recent theft in Puranpur. “The recovery of the firearms and stolen vehicle is a significant breakthrough in our efforts against the terror module,” SP Pandey added.

Constables Sumit and Shahnawaz, who were injured in the encounter, received immediate medical treatment and were referred to a hospital for further care. Their condition is reportedly stable.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, took to social media platform X to confirm the success of the operation, calling it a “major breakthrough” against the KZF terror module. “In a major breakthrough against a #Pak-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force(KZF) terror module, a joint operation of UP Police and Punjab Police has led to an encounter with three module members who fired at the police party,” Yadav stated.

The successful operation is being hailed as a significant achievement in the fight against terror, especially in light of the ongoing efforts to dismantle Khalistani extremist networks.
