25-year-old man charged with terrorism activities sentenced to twelve years in prison
A 25-year-old man from Skien, who was charged with three counts of attempted complicity in a terrorist attack, has been sentenced to twelve years in prison.
The information has been confirmed to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) by the man’s defender, lawyer Brynjar Meling.
The man was charged with three attempts to contribute to terrorist attacks abroad via chat groups that he was administrating. The man is also charged with participating in the terrorist group ISIS, as well as sharing bomb recipes and propaganda for ISIS.
The prosecutor asked for 15 years in prison for the 25-year-old when the case went to Oslo District Court. At the time, the 25-year-old rejected criminal guilt on all counts of terrorism, NRK writes.
Meling told NRK that his client reacted strongly to the verdict.
“This is the first case we have in Norway that only concerns online chatting and sharing info online. I have talked to the accused, and he has already appealed (the verdict),” Meling said.
