100 al-Shabab militants killed in a foiled attack in Jubbaland says Somali government
Somali Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adaala stated that nearly a hundred al-Shabab militants were killed in a foiled terror attack in the Lower Jubba region on Monday.
The al-Qaeda-affiliated group started the attack with explosions, followed by heavy fighting at a military base in Bula Hajji village near Kismayo town.
“During the operation in Lower Jubba, the group fled, leaving behind nearly a hundred bodies of their militants. The nation’s heroes are still pursuing them, and you will receive detailed information soon,” the minister added.
The Somali government displayed firearms and the bodies of dozens of al-Shabab militants killed in the attack. Preliminary reports indicate that around 100 al-Shabab members were killed.
The attack follows an incident the previous day, where at least five al-Shabab militants were killed when their vehicle ran over a landmine between Gududey and Buka Ba’ad areas in the Middle Jubba region. The vehicle, which was also carrying IED explosives, was completely burned.
